Emery F. Barrus letters and diary

Scope and Contents Nine handwritten letters and 6 pages of Elder Emery F. Barrus' journal kept while he served as a missionary for the Mormon Church in the Southern States Mission in 1899. Letters and journal describe both Barrus' travels and attempts to preach the restored gospel, primarily to people of Tennessee and Missouri. Both letters and journal pages are photocopied for patron use. Also included are the funerary program and a newspaper obituary of Ruth Hammond Barrus.

The guest book and diary are found in the same volume. Some of the materials relate to Evans' service as president of the Eastern States Mission for the Mormon Church. Joseph Fielding correspondence

Scope and Contents Photocopies of handwritten letters. Most of the items were written while Fielding was serving as a missionary in England. The letters are to and from family members. Fielding writes about missionary activities and receives information on the Mormons in Missouri and Nauvoo, Illinois.

Heber J. Grant letter to Miriam Taylor

Scope and Contents Typewritten and signed letter dated September 24, 1920 and addressed to Miss Miriam Taylor of Provo, Utah. The letter informs Miss Taylor that she has been "selected as a missionary to labor in New Zealand" for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is expected to leave in November of 1920.

Scope and Contents Typescript of a letter dated March 15, 1886 composed in Ramah Valencia County, New Mexico, and addressed to John Taylor, president of the Mormon Church. Hatch writes about the progress of missionary work among the Indians.

John Peter Johnson papers

Identifier: MSS 1957
Scope and Contents Handwritten correspondence, diaries, notebooks, patriarchal blessings, certificates, an autobiography, and genealogical materials. The correspondence are between Johnson and his wife, Hana, and were written while Johnson was on a mission for the Mormon Church in Sweden. The diaries were kept while Johnson was on his mission and after his return to Ogden, Utah. The certificates deal with Johnson's numerous callings in the Mormon Church.

Jesse C. Little letters received and pamphlets

Scope and Contents Letters received, miscellaneous items, and pamphlets composed by Little. These materials largely deal with Little's activities in the mission field in the 1840's. Letters are from such prominent individuals as Brigham Young (1801-1877) and Thomas L. Kane.

Moses Martin letter to Joseph Smith

Scope and Contents Handwritten and signed letter, composed in La Porte, Indiana, dated November 7, 1841, and addressed to Joseph Smith, first president of the Mormon Church. Martin writes to introduce himself, tells of his efforts to preach the Mormon faith, and asks for a blessing.
