Silas LeRoy Richards diary and family histories

Scope and Contents

Handwritten autobiography and diary, family histories, genealogies, patriarchal blessings, and mementos. Much of the material relates to the history and genealogies of the Richards, Rhead (Reed), Stanley, and Huffman (Hoffman) families. Silas was born in Union and later moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. He held several jobs and served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern States Mission from 1902 to 1905.

Levi Savage diaries

Scope and Contents Handwritten diaries. The original items are housed in two boxes while the photocopies of these materials are housed in three. There are many gaps in the entries including a sixteen-year gap from 1861 to 1877. Savage writes about his mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to "Siam" (Thailand) from 1852 to 1856. Jacob Foutz Secrist diaries and correspondence

Scope and Contents

Photocopies of handwritten correspondence, letters, and a patriarchal blessing. The materials were created when Secrist was serving on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Germany and Switzerland. The correspondents were his wife, Ann Eliza Logan Secrist, and other family members. Secrist writes about his missionary activities, and his wife and others tell about events in Salt Lake City, Utah.

A short sketch of the life of Levi Jackman

Typescript copy of a life sketch originally written by Jackman in 1851 which describes his early family life in Vermont and New York. The sketch also includes journal excerpts from 1835-1847 which detail his Latter-day Saint Church missions to Ohio, the 1847 trek across the Plains and early Utah life. Also includes a typescript of notes from a sketch by S.C. Richardson about Jackman.

John L. Smith papers

Scope and Contents Contains seven journals of John Lyman Smith, and other autobiographical manuscripts, as wells as a bound typescript volume of an autobiography/journal. The journals include accounts of persecutions in Ohio, Missouri, and Illinois, pioneering in Utah, Lyman's two missions to Europe, and his service as president of the Swiss-Italian and the Swiss-Italian-German missions. John Smith papers

Scope and Contents

Collection contains papers related to Smith's mission to Denmark, life in Utah with family, and his position as Presiding Patriarch of the LDS Church. Includes diaries, letters, articles containing references to John, his personal patriarchal blessing, sheep accounts, family history notes, and copies of patriarchal blessings pronounced by himself. Dated 1848-1962.

William Wilson Sterrett journal

Scope and Contents

Handwritten journal accompanied by its photocopy, along with Simeon R. Sterrett's typewritten missionary blessing and its photocopy. The journal describes W. W. Sterrett's mission, how an Indian chief, Black Pine, saved his life, and also contains his family's genealogy, a record of temple ordinances, and copies of patriarchal blessings.

Joseph H. Stimpson diaries

Scope and Contents

Photocopies of handwritten diaries. The items cover the years 1908-1913, 1915-1921, and 1960-1961. Stimpson served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Japan from 1906 to 1912. He returned to Japan with his wife, Ann Mary Christensen Stimpson, where he served as a mission president for the Church from 1915 to 1921. Many of the entries for 1916 were made by Mrs. Stimpson. The latest diaries were kept when Stimpson was retired in Riverdale, Utah.

Kanute Swensen diaries

Scope and Contents

Handwritten diaries with bound photostat copies of the items. The first two volumes, covering the years 1857 to 1868, are in Danish, while the remainder are in English. Also included is a typewritten translation into English of the diaries for the years 1857 and 1858 when Swensen was serving a mission for the Mormon Church in Denmark. Swensen writes about his immigration to Utah and his life in Pleasant Grove.
