Seth Millington Blair diary and autobiography

Scope and Contents

Typescript of an autobiography. Blair writes about his parents, his joining of the Mormon Church, his migration to Utah, his mission to Texas for the Mormon Church, and his life in Salt Lake City, Utah. He includes patriarchal blessings of family members. There are many gaps in the diary.

John A. Blythe journal

Scope and Contents

Photocopy of typescript. Describes his trip from Salt Lake City to the site of Joseph City and daily life in the United Order in that town. The diary also discusses the author's departure on a supply trip to Salt Lake City and concludes with his arrival in St. George, Utah en route.

A one-page autobiographical sketch entitled "History of John A. Blythe, From his birth to Feb. 3rd, 1876" is also included.

James Franklin Carroll autobiography

Scope and Contents

Typed copy of an autobiography in eight pages. Carroll lived in Heber City, Orderville, Grayson, Blanding, and Salt Lake City, Utah. He also lived for several years in Mexico. Also included is a photocopy of a handwritten letter to his children in which Carroll states his faith in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The dates of the composition of these items are uncertain.

Scope and Contents Handwritten autobiographies, diaries, correspondence, patriarchal blessings, and miscellaneous materials. Typescripts and photocopies of many of these items are also found with the collection. Some of the materials have been bound into books. The collection relates primarily to Joab Collier (1855-1918) and Theodocia Keeler Collier (1858-1912). The Colliers were Mormons who lived in Provo, Vernal, and in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ebenezer Crouch autobiography

Scope and Contents

Typescript of an autobiography. Crouch was born in Tumbridge Wells, Kent, England; migrated to America in 1856; and came to Utah in 1859. Crouch tells about encounters with Ute Indians, describes Orrin Porter Rockwell, and writes about being married polygamously. He lived in numerous places in Utah and had several occupations.

Handwritten note describing an included photograph. Also included is a typewritten copy of the note. The photograph is a portrait of Tom Lang or "Man-o-war-Tom" who "was the terror of the Mormons near him when he settled in S. Utah in 1874."

Diary

Scope and Contents

This is a holograph diary covering from 1 July 1881 to 15 April 1884. During this time, the author worked as a surveyor for the Utah Central Railroad in Spanish Fork Canyon and vicinity. The first 17 pages of the document are in pencil and the remainder are in ink. The hand is often difficult to decypher, especially since many of the entries are partly in shorthand (Pitman).
