Eugene Field poems
Handwritten poems and a letter fragment. The missive is from the bottom of a page with Field's signature on it. The poems are "In New Orleans" which is signed and "The Baby Prayer" from which the signature has been cut out.
Forerunners and the bigot
Handwritten and signed poems entitled, "The Forerunners" and "The Bigot. The dates of compositon are uncertain. The items are in a notebook.
Greeting to counselor George W. Larkin on the fiftieth anniversary of his birth
The folder contains a photocopy of a printed poem dedicated to George W. Larkin, a patriarch for the Mormon Church in the Weber Stake in 1898.
H. W. poem
Handwritten poem dated 7 May 1851 and signed with H. W. The poem tells about a man who was a sea captain who went on a trip to Turkey and rescued a woman there.
David and Ira P. Hale papers
Collection includes the originals, photocopies, and digital scans of a ledger used by David Hale and two notebooks used by Ira P. Hale. Also includes a photocopy and a typescript of a letter from Lorenzo D. Wasson, Emma Smith, and a third author to David Hale. The handwriting may be from Joseph Smith, but it is unsigned. Original documents date from 1827 to 1888.
Bethiah Haywood Willis Kingston poem
Mormon Battalion
Handwritten poem commemorating the activities of the Mormon Battalion in service of the United States during the war with Mexico (1845-1848). The item was written in ink. "By John Hancock who went in the Battalion in 1847" has been penciled in at the bottom of the item in another hand. No John Hancock is listed among members of the battalion.
Poems on life in a metaphysical sense
Handwritten document containing a collection of poems by an unknown author which deal mainly with metaphysical questions of life.
William Minshall Evans papers
Handwritten poems and songs. Also included is a biography of Evans written by his granddaughter, Grace McLachlan Foxley, in 1940. The dating of the songs and poems is uncertain. At least one was written when Evans was on his mission in Liverpool, England.
Poetics
Handwritten poems dedicated to Mrs. Eliza Touchet. Ainsworth made twenty-one monor revisions and corrections in the texts of these items and supplied a line omitted by a copyist in the poem titled "To Eliza."
