Scope and Contents Photocopy of a handwritten letter dated 14 July 1849. The item was written by a Mormon in Salt Lake City, Utah. He signed the item with an illegible signature. His first name was "Wm." and his second name started with an "S." The item is addressed to relatives in Richmond, Indiana. The writer of the letter tells about the conditions of Salt Lake City, since its founding two years previously. He tells about the weather, economic conditions, prices of goods, and other general matters...

Josiah Saville family organization

Photocopies of typewritten family histories, genealogies, patriarchal blessings, letters, certificates, and a diary. All materials relate to the family and descendants of Josiah Saville (1816-1903). Josiah was a convert to the Mormon Church in England who migrated to Utah in 1862. He lived in Salt Lake City, Utah. The diary is by James Wright Saville (1850-1912) and was kept for the year 1904 and writes about his daily activities probably in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Scope and Contents

Photocopies of handwritten correspondence, letters, and a patriarchal blessing. The materials were created when Secrist was serving on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Germany and Switzerland. The correspondents were his wife, Ann Eliza Logan Secrist, and other family members. Secrist writes about his missionary activities, and his wife and others tell about events in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Thomas P. Shrock letter

Scope and Contents

Handwritten and signed letter, dated 1849, and addressed to "Dear Rebecca." Schrock describes his overland journey from Missouri to California to visit the gold fields. He also writes about the reputation the Mormons had at the time. He says that "vegetables, milk, butter, cheese and other things" could be purchased at the "Mormon City" (Salt Lake City, Utah) but adds that the Mormons often cheated people coming West.
