Scope and Contents

Collection includes twelve sound reels containing interviews of either descendants of early settlers in the Utah Territory, such as Wallace Clay, or Utah historians, like Juanita Brooks. The interviews are oral histories that were used as part of Conley's master's thesis, published in 1976. Each reel includes one person's story, with the exception of reel number nine, which contains two interviews. Dated 1974-1975.

Mary A. Hicks interview with Mandy Coverson

Scope and Contents

Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typescript of an interview. Coverson was interviewed by Mary A. Hicks in 1937 as part of the Federal Writer's Project for the Works Progress Administration. The item includes handwritten corrections. Coverson was a child when her mother died, and she was raised in the plantation house. She describes the Union Army briefly, talks about the Ku Klux Klan, and gives thanks for her freedom.

Transcript of an interview conducted by Jay Drake on 26 July 1985 for the Ray Hillam war project. Kelly Drake was drafted into the United States Army in 1954 (?). He went to Ft. Ord, California, for training, and he was sent to Germany where he was assigned to be a jeep driver. He trained soldiers and played war games. He thought that the United States' participation in the the Korean War was justified.
