Biography of Joseph Grafton Hovey

Typescripts of material of Joseph Hovey, a Mormon convert in Illinois in 1839 and later a pioneer to Utah, compiled and written by his grandson, including a detailed journal written in the first person for the years 1839 to April 1854 and a brief journal concerning life in central Utah in 1855-1856. Also included is supplementary material taken from a journal of Joseph Hovey's wife, Lusannah.

Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typewritten biography. Samuel Kendall Gifford was born in New York in 1821 and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days Saints. He migrated to Utah in 1850, settled in Washington County, Utah, had four wives, and died in 1907.

Scope and Contents Handwritten diary of Cone's overland journey by ox team from Waukesha, Wisconsin to California in 1849. Cone is a descriptive writer and proud to record "only facts." Diary describes traveling conditions, encounters with Indians, cholera outbreaks, fellow travelers, and government assistance at the end of the trail. Esaias Edwards autobiography and diary

Edwards writes extensively about his conversion to the Mormon Church in 1839, life at Nauvoo, Illinois, and the death of two of his wives. Collection includes photocopies of correspondence collected by Elmer Ewing written by Mormon pioneers. Includes the letters of Temperance Bond Mack, Christeen Golden Kimball, and Nathan Calhoun Cheney describing their travels to Salt Lake City and other events in Mormon history. One letter by Cheney also includes a description of events surrounding the death of Joseph Smith.
