Includes an account of the emigration from England of the settlers of South Africa, the wars and events of South Africa, the arrival of missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in South Africa, immigration to the United States and travel on the Mormon Trail, the diamond works in South Africa, and an account of familial events in Utah. Eli Wiggill autobiography typescript

Scope and Contents

Typewritten copy of an autobiography. Wiggill was born in England and migrated to South Africa where he joined the Mormon Church. He came to Utah in 1861 and worked as a wagon maker there. His account gives a lot of detail on his activities as a Mormon in South Africa, his journey to Utah, and his subsequent life in that state.

Clarissa Harden Wilhelm autobiography

Typewritten copy of an autobiography. Wilhelm writes about her youth in New York, her joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1838, her move to Nauvoo, Illinois, in 1844, and her subsequent migration to Utah. She also tells about her various marriages and her life in Salt Lake City, Spanish Fork, Springville, St. George, and Orderville, Utah. She also talks of living in St. Joseph, Arizona.

Andrew Jackson writes about his family's conversion to Mormonism in 1839 while living in Tennessee; his settlement at Nauvoo, Illinois, 1843; the exodus west; serving in the Mormon Battalion, and march to California; his work in the gold mines; his arrival in the Salt Lake Valley, 1855; the return trip to California; settling in Kane County, Utah; the death of his wife, Rebecca Deck; his remarriage to Sariah A. Eager, 1866 and the organization of the United Order, 1874.

Typescript (carbon copy) of an autobiographical sketch written by Layne in 1898 which gives details of his early life in Nauvoo, Illinois; his trek across the Plains to Utah; his settlement in Davis, Weber and Cache Counties, Utah; his experiences with the Mormon soldiers sent to oppose Johnston's army; and his eventual move to Alberta, Canada to escape arrest as a polygamist. Also includes extracts from his journal, 1887-1891.

Hans Jorgen Zobell autobiography

Scope and Contents

Photocopies of a typewritten autbiography. Also incuded are photocopies of photographs of family members and of a handwritten letter. The item was originally written in Danish. It was translated into English in 1933 by Albert L. Zobell. Hans writes about growing up in Denmark, his migration to Utah, and his life in Lake View. Also included is copy a patriarchal blessing.
