92 days in the saddle
Typewritten book draft with handwritten corrections. Butler and his wife took a bet to ride on horseback from the Canadian-North Dakota border to the town of Deadwood, South Dakota in twenty days. They actually started near Winnipeg, Canada and rode 1,550 miles to Steamboat Springs, Colorado in 92 days. The item was submitted to the Old Army Press for publication.
Charles Atchison letter book
Holograph copies of letters and memorandums regarding the post, its supplies, equipment, muster roll and personnel. Includes opinions of Atchison and his evaluation of the surrounding area. Also included is a photocpy of a newspaper article by James M. Barney that appeared in the Phoenix Gazette on December 6, 1958 which gives a history of Fort Mojave.

James P. Beckwourth business papers
Account book, deeds, receipts, letters, statements, land claims, orders of payment, and a poll tax notice, all relating to Beckwourth's personal business transactions. The account book contains a draft copy of his will.
William Clark bill of exchange
Handwritten and signed bill of exchange addressed to General Henry Dearborn, Secretary of War. Clark requests the sum of two hundred dollars to be paid to William Croghan, an Indian interpreter, for services rendered.
Sam Brannan correspondence and other material
Handwritten and signed correspondence and legal documents. Most of the correspondence is from Sam Brannan to Jesse C. Little from 1880 to 1888, and he discusses his efforts to colonize and mine in Sonora, Mexico. Also includes some correspondence from Little to Brannan, dated 1885-1888, and printed documents, maps, and other papers related to colonizing and mining in Mexico. Dated approximately 1875 to 1888.
Mason Brayman correspondence
Four ALS's between Brayman and Winnemucca, chief of the Paiutes. Tells of a request by Chief Winnemucca to send visitors to the Bannocks and instructions concerning their travel by Brayman. Also includes a 1939 postmarked envelope which enclosed the correspondence at time of purchase.
James B. Bruffee letter to Robert Campbell
Contains a letter written by fur trader James B. Bruffee to his friend and fellow fur trader Robert Campbell on September 10, 1829 that contains an early reference to Yellowstone as well as record the death of his business partner, Hiram Scott.
Henry Buckingham letters to Frank Albert Root
Handwritten and signed letters, probably written about 1904, and addressed to Frank A. Root. Buckingham apparently writes to Root in answer to a request. Buckingham tells about his overland journey from Lake Erie to California in 1850 and 1851. He also spend "a few weeks among the saints" (Mormons) of Utah.
