Stillman Churchill diary

Scope and Contents Handwritten diaries describing the overland journey from Lowell, Massachusetts to Deer Creek, Wyoming in 1849. Volume 2 concludes Churchill's journey to California. Churchill traveled with the Sagamore and California Mining and Trading Company. After its dissolution in late June, it is likely that the author joined the Oskaloosa Company. Gordon C. Cone diary

Scope and Contents Handwritten diary of Cone's overland journey by ox team from Waukesha, Wisconsin to California in 1849. Cone is a descriptive writer and proud to record "only facts." Diary describes traveling conditions, encounters with Indians, cholera outbreaks, fellow travelers, and government assistance at the end of the trail. William Horne Dame diaries

Typewritten copies of personal diaries by Dame, kept from 1854 to 1855. Entries are short and mainly relate to Dame's various activities. Also included is the "Journal of Southern Exploring Company," an expedition led by Dame to areas of Iron County, Utah, to find suitable locations for Mormon settlements in 1858. Diary lists the members of the expedition. Dame describes the activities of the group including the surveying of lots and the planting of crops.

Alphonse B. Day diary

Scope and Contents

Handwritten account of Day's overland journey from the Missouri River to Oregon in 1849. Diary primarily focuses on travelling conditions: grass, water, and condition of horse and ox teams. A number of companions died from cholera and mountain fever. Day intended to travel to California, but "as I think its impossible to go to California with a team," headed to Oregon instead.

William D. Grantham diary

Scope and Contents Handwritten diary (64 pages) of Grantham's overland journey from Missouri to Goose Creek, Utah, in 1850 by ox and horse team. Grantham mainly writes about the geography of the trail and daily camp locations. A member of the company died near the Bear River, and Grantham notes the graves he passed. Contains Lois W. McIntyre's travel journal and hotel stationary notes documenting her vacation to Honolulu, Hawaii; Wake Island; Manila; Singapore; Bangkok; Hong Kong; and Tokyo. In her journal, she summarizes daily travel itineraries and comments more particularly on flora, dress, and cuisine of each destination she visits. McIntyre makes reference to the construction of the "Mormon University" in Hawaii. Dated 1958 July-August.
