Sam Brannan correspondence and other material

Scope and Contents Handwritten and signed correspondence and legal documents. Most of the correspondence is from Sam Brannan to Jesse C. Little from 1880 to 1888, and he discusses his efforts to colonize and mine in Sonora, Mexico. Also includes some correspondence from Little to Brannan, dated 1885-1888, and printed documents, maps, and other papers related to colonizing and mining in Mexico. Dated approximately 1875 to 1888.

Scope and Contents Typewritten and signed letter. Byrd writes to Melvin H. Schoberlin of Denver, Colorado, on 18 Aug. 1928 to inform him that he will not be able to carry a letter for Schoberlin on the upcoming "Byrd Antartic Expedition."

Leonard S. Conger letter

Scope and Contents Handwritten and signed letter and typescript. The item was written in 1861 in the Nebraska Territory by Conger to his brother Levi in New York. Conger gives a brief description of his travel itinerary as well as making a plea to receive communications from family and friends.

Scope and Contents Handwritten and signed letters dated 20 Feb. and 22 April 1902 and addressed to John M. Cannon. Fox writes that he just arrived in Raymond, Alberta. He writes about crops and timber. He also requests that cattle be soon sent to Raymond as soon as possible.

Scope and Contents Handwritten diaries with typescripts in four volumes. Volume 1 concerns Hart's overland journey by ox team from Quincy, Illinois to the Humboldt Valley, Nevada, in 1852. Hart is an insightful and descriptive diarist. He writes about cooking and commerce on the plains, encounters with Indians, and dissatisfaction in his company. Scope and Contents Contains two letters from Charles Stuart, railroad designer, to Nathaniel B. Baker, Adjutant General of the Iowa Militia. Both letters concern the building of railroads in Iowa that would connect with the transcontinental railroad, which was about to be built, beginning in Omaha, Nebraska. Scope and Contents Photocopy of a handwritten letter dated April 12, 1867 and a newspaper clipping dated July 17, 1958. In the letter Brigham Young calls Ira Hinkley to settle Cove Creek and to build a fort there. The building is known as Cove Fort. The newspaper clipping shows a photograph of the fort.
