Scope and Contents Handwritten letters and miscellaneous papers. The materials relate to the Patty and Hardin families and include a sixteen-page letter by J. R. Hardin telling about his journey from Missouri to Salt Lake City, Utah. Some of the materials relate to the American Civil War. Many of the items were written in California and Missouri.

Orson Pratt correspondence

Scope and Contents Photocopies of two letters. One, dated 30 April 1857, was sent to "my dear wife Juliaett" from Orson and deals with family matters. The other, dated 26 Jan. 1851, was written by Louisa P. Pratt (wife of Orson) to "dear cousin Jane." This missive was written while Louisa was with Orson on a mission to the Tahitian Islands. It describes the island of Tapai in that group and gives an account of missionary activities there.

Scope and Contents Handwritten and signed letter dated March 25, 1846 and addressed to Harriet Cook Young, one of Brigham Young's wives. Brigham Young writes about the prospects of the Mormons migrating to the West.

Margaret Peirce Whitesides Young letter

Scope and Contents Single letter, both as a photocopied manuscript and as a typed transcription, written by Margaret Peirce, daughter of Robert Peirce and future wife of Brigham Young, detailing her time on the Mormon Trail including her time in Winter Quarters to her relatives in Pennsylvania. Letter was written in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 31, 1848.
