Scope and Contents

Typewritten excerpts from laws passed by the United States with the intention of making the practice of polygamy a crime. The items are the relevant passages taken from the Anti-Polygamy Act of 1862, the Edmunds Law of 1882, and the Edmunds-Tucker Law of 1887. Also included is a signed typewritten statement by Edward V. Higgins (1858- ), notary public of Iron County, Utah, verifying that the excerpts were correct.

Arrest warrant

Scope and Contents

Handwritten and signed arrest warrant, dated 6 Dec. 1842, and written in Nauvoo, Illinois. As mayor, Smith signs a warrant ordering the marshall of Nauvoo to arrest Amos Davis who had been accused of assault by William C. Walker. On the reverse is a statement saying that Davis was brought before a city court.

Scope and Contents This collection contains 28 folders, housed in 2 hollinger boxes. The collection is approximately 1500 pages long. This collection is a compilation of letters that Arrington wrote to his children once they were all out of the house. His secretary, Chris Croft, typed and xeroxed a large portion of the letters. Collection consists of papers relating to the dictionary Ermel J. Morton, a Mormon missionary who went to Tonga, created from English to Tongan and Tongan to English, his accounts of his mission and translating the Book of Mormon, a history of his wife, a catalog of his materials from home, a typed copy of the talks at his funeral and a Tongan grammar book. There is also a book written about the time the family spent in Tonga.
