Biography Joseph Alston

Scope and Contents Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typed biography. Joseph Alston was born in 1821 in England, and he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1839. He migrated to Nauvoo, Illinois, where he knew Joseph Smith, the first president of the Mormon Church. He migrated to Utah probably in 1850 and died in 1891.

Ernest Clark notebook

Scope and Contents Notebook contains an autobiography of Ernest Clark, as well as notes from a sermon by Mary Lightner on Joseph Smith and a copy of a revelation on marriage by John Taylor. Clark's autobiography describes his early years in Utah, his family's life in Mexico and their expulsion from the country in 1912, his education, and his teaching career in Idaho and Wyoming. Contents date from between 1905 and 1968.

George Cannon biography

Scope and Contents Photocopy of a typed biography of George Cannon, English convert to the Mormon Church, who emigrated to the United States and settled in Nauvoo. He made coffins for the Mormon prophet, Joseph Smith (1805-1844), and his brother, Hyrum, and plaster casts of their heads.

Anson Call was born in Fletcher, Franklin County, Vermont on 13 May 1810. Call married Mary Flint and later joined the Mormon Church. John Murdock journal and autobiography

Scope and Contents Materials include two copies of the typescript of an autobiography covering, 1792-1867, and journals, 1830-1859. Murdock was a Campbellite who joined the Mormon Church in 1830. He lived with Joseph Smith (1805-1844), the Mormon prophet, in 1833 and participated in "Zion's Camp" in 1834. He lived in Kirtland, Ohio; Nauvoo, Illinois; and Lehi, Utah and was in Missouri during the persecution of Mormons in that state.

Scope and Contents Typewritten autobiography and photocopies of handwritten letters received by Smith. Also included are typescripts of Job Smith's "Recollections" of the first president of the Mormon Church, Joseph Smith (1805-1844), and photocopies of handwritten and typewritten certificates. The letters are from prminent Mormon Church leaders. Also included is a photocopy of a handwritten patriarchal blessing received by Smith.

James W. Woods memoirs

Scope and Contents Photocopied typescript of an autobiography. In 1882 when Woods was "upwards of eighty years of age" he was interviewed for several weeks probably by Edgar R. Harlan with a stenographer present who wrote down the conversations. These materials were later condensed and pertinent portions were woven into a narrative.
