Brodie explains why she cannot do a biography of Brigham Young, the second president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or of Samuel Brannan. She states that materials relating to Young would be denied to her by the Church.

Includes handwritten autobiographical sketches of Oliver Wolcott Sr. and William Pinkney and letters from prominent political figures such as William Henry Harrison and Richard Mentor Johnson.
