Anthony Armstrong papers

A. S. Balestier letter

Scope and Contents Handwritten letter dated 6 Aug. 1895 and addressed to H. B. Tedrow, an autograph collector in Omaha, Nebraska. Balestier writes that Rudyard Kipling will return to Vermont in September and will only give his autograph to those who first contribute $2.50 to "The Tribune Fresh Air Fund" of New York.

Bedtime

Scope and Contents Original pen and ink drawing, initialed, and dated 24 Feb. 1893. The item depicts a mother mouse holding a baby mouse with two other mice in a cradle. This is one of a set of six drawings intended to illustrate "There was an old woman who lived in a shoe," which was never published. It was later used in "Appley Dapply's Nursery Rhymes." It was also used in "The Tale of Two Bad Mice."

Tucker Brooke letter

Scope and Contents Handwritten and signed letter dated 17 Sept. 1902. Brooke tells an unnamed friend that he would be glad to see him whenever he may be able to come on a visit.

William Brown letter

Identifier: MSS SC 3110
Scope and Contents Handwritten and signed letter dated 26 Aug. 1854, and addressed to "My Dear Sir," believed to be Edgar Bowring. Brown writes the following. "I learn that a Pamphlet containing our Decimal proceedings will be ready about Tuesday. I have desired copies to be sent to you. Pray send one to you Father with the enclosed letter. Ever yours respectfully. Wm Brown." The "Father" was Sir John Bowring. The item probably relates to the book, "The decimal system in numbers" by John Bowring.

Scope and Contents Handwritten and signed letter dated 14 January of an unspecified year. Collins responds to a person named Harry who had requested Collins send him his autograph.

Walter De la Mare letter

Scope and Contents Typewritten letter signed by De la Mare and addressed to "Mr. Kowan" thanking him for his letter. Kowan apparently wanted encouragement from De la Mare on an unnamed project. De la Mare said there was already much done on the topic.

Robert Graves letters

Scope and Contents Handwritten and signed letters addressed to Rex Taylor. One item was typed. They were all written in Mallorca, Spain. Graves writes mainly about personal and family matters. He mentions that he considers "Sorley" (probably Charles Hamilton Sorely) to be the best poet of his generation whom he once met and about whom he once wrote a poem.
