Scope and Contents Original pen and ink drawing, initialed, and dated 24 Feb. 1893. The item depicts a mother mouse holding a baby mouse with two other mice in a cradle. This is one of a set of six drawings intended to illustrate "There was an old woman who lived in a shoe," which was never published. It was later used in "Appley Dapply's Nursery Rhymes." It was also used in "The Tale of Two Bad Mice."

Baron Edward Bulwer Lytton drawings

Scope and Contents Original color drawings to illustrate Lytton's novels. They are entitled: The Caxtons, The Coming Race, Devereux, Eugene Aram, Falkland, Godolphin, Kenelm Chillingley, Lucretia, Zanoni, and A Strange Story.

Pink and Lily Inn visitor's book

Scope and Contents Visitor's book containing notes, poems, autographs, and sketches. The item has entries made by visitors to the inn including Rupert Brooke, the English poet. Also included are poems by Ivor Gurney (p. 142), Lance Sieveking (p. 141), and Wallis Mansford (p. 237) and numerous illustrations by Hanslip Fletcher.

Scope and Contents Handwritten poems dedicated to Mrs. Eliza Touchet. Ainsworth made twenty-one monor revisions and corrections in the texts of these items and supplied a line omitted by a copyist in the poem titled "To Eliza."

Joanna Southcott sealing document

Identifier: MSS 899
Scope and Contents Handwritten certificate signed by Joseph Allman and Joanna Southcott. The item was also "sealed" with a red wax seal which meant that the holder would be among the 144,000 mentioned in the Book of Revelations who had a special calling at the return of Jesus Christ. The document states: "The sealed of the Lord the elect precious man's redemption to inherit the Tree of Life to be made heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ."
