Scope and Contents Contains material pertaining to the career of James Roman Andrus as an art professor at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. His personal papers include correspondence, family photographic color slides, standard audio cassettes, and magnetic tape recordings. His professional papers include his lecture notes and recordings, lithography notes, exhibit programs, personal notes and journals, small sketches, clippings, and color photographic slides (2 in x 2 in) of many of his paintings....

Scope and Contents

Collection is composed of 69 lantern slides dating from approximately 1888 to 1950. The majority of the slides are photographs of paintings by John Hafen. There are also two slides of a painting by Rose Hartwell and two slides of paintings by John Hafen's son, Virgil Hafen. There are also two portraits on John Hafen, one by Will Vawter and the other photographer not identified. There is also a photograph taken by George Edward Anderson of John Hafen's son, Joseph, and John's wife, Thora.

Materials include 225 photographs and 120 duplicates, for a total of 345 slides. 301 of these slides are photographs that may have been B.F. Larsen, the artist, of his paintings between approximately 1943 and 1966. The other 44 slides are landscape photographs taken throughout Utah between approximately 1943 and 1966.

Contains book entitled "Paintings by B.F. Larsen with Table of Contents and Index, compiled by Eugene C Larsen." Contains information on the paintings of B.F. Larsen, including each painting's name, date, size, medium, and current owner at the time of the book's compilation. Paintings date betwen 1914 and 1954 and include scenes from western Europe and Utah. Materials dated 1986.

Contains 474 photographs of paintings of Utah landscapes, and works by Utah artists. Artists represented in the collection include past Brigham Young University professors.

Scope and Contents

Collection contains publicity and prints of paintings done on weathered wood with Native American and western themes. It also includes the famous "Iwo Jima" piece (signed) finished Sept. 10, 2001, and later presented to President George Bush. This print was signed about a year later at the reunion of the 4th Marine Division on Iwo Jima during the historic battle.

Abstract

The research collection includes a variety of materials including published articles and artwork, correspondence, and other copies of artwork of Maxfield Parrish gathered by John Arthur Taylor. Materials were gathered over a 60 year period, and includes materials from 1899 through 2007.
