Cedar Breaks
Two typewritten manuscripts of the story "Cedar Breaks." Each of the versions contains the fictional story of a Mormon family in Cedar City, Utah practicing polygamy. The story was published in 1976 under the title, "Zion Town."
Martha A. Chavez papers
Contains newspaper clippings about Chavez, or newspaper clippings she is quoted in. It also contains her journal dated 1972 to 1999, a family calendar created by Chavez, some papers regarding spiritual experiences and dreams that she had, and two binders of the conversion stories and testimonies of the Relief Society sisters and youth of her ward.
C. C. A. Christensen autobiography and biographies
Typewritten copies of biographies and clippings relating to C. C. A. Christensen (1831-1912). Also included is an autobiography of Christensen that has been translated from the original Danish. Christensen is the most noted Mormon artist who documented much of the Mormon experience through his paintings. He also painted murals to decorate Mormon meeting houses and temples.
J. Spencer Cornwall papers
Collection contains letters, speeches, photographs, and other materials relating to J. Spencer Cornwall's activities and work with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
Edwin Charles Cox papers
Handwritten notes, musical scores, an obituary, and excerpts from an autobiography. Cox writes mostly about his life in England during the 1830s and 1840s. His writings include a "Dialogue between Joseph Smith and the Devil."
Deseret News lists
Handwritten record of items purchased by the Deseret News in Fillmore, Utah at the store of Samuel Pierce Hoyt (1807-1889). Also included is a list of persons paid by the Deseret News for work completed. Some of the entries are believed to have been written by George Q. Cannon, the Mormon apostle.
Foreword to a life story
Photocopy of a handwritten autobiography of John L. Seymour who taught at Sacramento Junior College for 24 years, produced and directed many plays, composed operas and chamber music. He later moved to Cedar City, Utah after the death of his mother and established a memorial library for her at Southern Utah State College. He discusses the operas he wrote and describes his philosophy of life.
Play about John C. Fremont [Fremont] coming to Parowan
Photocopy of a typed manuscript. The author and date of the item are unknown. The play was written for "pioneer days." The play mentions prominent people who had visited or came from Parowan, Utah.
