Scope and Contents Handwritten and signed letters addressed to David Horner. In the first, dated 16 May 1953, Hartley looks forward to a dinner engagement. The second, dated 23 March 1956, relates gratitude for Horner's congratulations on his receipt of a C.B.E. A letter dated 6 November 1956 and written from Venice gives a detailed description of the advantages and disadvantages of the Hotel Regina, and relates news of Victor Cunard and Freya Stark. Scope and Contents Handwritten and signed letters. Most of these letters were to friends and other English writers including Alice Acland, Elizabeth Bowen, and Lord David Cecil. Hartley discusses various aspects of literature, discusses many of his works, and asks about how they may be improved.

Scope and Contents Handwritten and signed letter dated March 23, 1943 and addressed to Lord Noel Buxton. The letter discusses a biography by Mottram of Sir Thomas Buxton. Included with the letter are three reviews of the book "Buxton the Liberator."

John Critchley Prince letter

Scope and Contents Handwritten letter dated April 1849 written in Ashton under Lyne. The letter is addressed to "Sir." Prince writes that he has "published a new and second work" which has been well received and offers to sell a copy of it for five Shillings.

Fred A. Rosenstock letter

Scope and Contents Typewritten and signed letter addressed to Charles Loughridge of Denver, Colorado and dated 18 Oct. 1926. Rosenstock offers a a complete set of four folios of the works of William Shakespeare published in 1623, 1632, 1663-4, and 1685 for the price of $47,500. In the letter Rosenstock describes the items to be sold.
