American artists autograph collection

Scope and Contents

Autographs of prominent artists of the United States. Most of the items date from around the turn of the twentieth century. Many of the autographs are accompanied with portraits of the artists and copies of some of their art work apparently taken from magazines. Some of the autographs are found at the bottom of brief notes or letters. One item is a menu with numerous autographs on it.

Janet Roberts Blamforth papers

Scope and Contents The collection consists of two biographies and miscellaneous photocopied papers that support the author's research. One biography is entitled "David Robert Roberts: the Father of Utah Good Roads." It is 25 pages of photocopied typescript and was written for the Utah 1976 Bicentennial Biography competition sponsored by the Salt Lake Tribune and the Utah State Historical Society. Roberts was a Utah politician who, as a Utah state legislator, pushed for improving roads in the state....

Elisabeth Southerden Thompson Butler autobiography

Scope and Contents

Photocopies of a typewritten autobiography. Butler describes her development as an artist and the major events of her life. She was known as a painter of military subjects. One of her paintings, "Roll Call," won great popularity in the art history of England. It was purchased later on by the Queen of England and is now in Windsor Castle.

Robert H. Campbell sketchbook

Sketchbook with sketches and poems produced when Campbell was on vacation at Sebago Lake, Maine, in 1881. They were done in pencil and ink. The sketches are of scenes and persons Campbell saw or met. The poems largely reflect on life and the nature of Campbell's surroundings. A photocopy of the book is also available.

C. C. A. Christensen autobiography and biographies

Scope and Contents

Typewritten copies of biographies and clippings relating to C. C. A. Christensen (1831-1912). Also included is an autobiography of Christensen that has been translated from the original Danish. Christensen is the most noted Mormon artist who documented much of the Mormon experience through his paintings. He also painted murals to decorate Mormon meeting houses and temples.

Collection of lantern slides of art

Scope and Contents

Collection is composed of 69 lantern slides dating from approximately 1888 to 1950. The majority of the slides are photographs of paintings by John Hafen. There are also two slides of a painting by Rose Hartwell and two slides of paintings by John Hafen's son, Virgil Hafen. There are also two portraits on John Hafen, one by Will Vawter and the other photographer not identified. There is also a photograph taken by George Edward Anderson of John Hafen's son, Joseph, and John's wife, Thora.
