William Atkin autobiography

Scope and Contents

Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typescript. The item is an autobiography of William Atkin "A Youth's Experience taken from the Union printed in 1896." William Atkin was born in England on 27 March 1835 and joined the Mormon Church in 1852. He migrated to the United States in 1855 and moved to Florence, Nebraska. He came to Utah in a handcart company and commented on the inexperience of the people in his group. He arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah, on 10 November 1859.

William Frank Atkin papers

Scope and Contents Correspondence, diaries, and a biography. The diaries relate to Atkin's missions to New Zealand from 1903 to 1906 and from 1916 to 1918. The correspondence is from family members and friends and largely relates to family matters and to Atkin's missionary activities. The biography is a history of Atkin's father, Thomas Atkin (1833-1919), who was a Mormon pioneer that was active in Tooele County politics.
