John Adams letter

Scope and Contents Photocopy of a handwritten and signed letter. Adams states that a Mr. Young "from Mendon" has been hired to do some work for him. It is unclear if the John Adams in the letter is the same John Adams (1786-1856) who wrote a legal history of New York State. The "Mr. Young" may have been Brigham Young (1801-1877), second president of the Mormon Church. The date of the item is also uncertain.

Carlos Ashby Badger papers

Scope and Contents Photocopies of diaries, correspondence, and scrapbooks. The correspondence is largely between Carlos Badger and his wife Rose Jenkins Badger. Most of the diaries were kept while Badger served as personal secretary to the United States Senator from Utah, Reed Smoot. The materials deal with the congressional hearings dealing with Smoot, mormon polygamy, Mormon temple endowments, and the politics of both Utah and the United States

Scope and Contents Ten handwritten diaries with photocopies of the items, a draft of the book "The Story of the Mormons in the Holy Land," newspaper clippings, and miscellaneous items. Barrett kept his diary while serving on a mission for the Mormon Church with his wife in Israel. He writes about the tedium of day-to-day work, consultations with prominent Israelis, diplomatic visits of foreign dignitaries, and meetings with various General Authoriities of the Mormon Church. John Watts Berrett diary

Scope and Contents Photocopy of a handwritten diary. The original journals are in four volumes and are located in the LDS Church Library-Archives in Salt Lake City, Utah. Berrett was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England who served on a mission for that faith in his native country. Berrett writes about his daily activities as a Mormon and as a missionary in England.

The items, which relate to family matters and marriage relationships, include a letter from the LDS Historical Department regarding the marriages of Zina to Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, and a letter from the U.S. Customs Court in New York denying the existence of any records relating to a divorce between Henry and Zina.
