Biographical History

Mel Olson (born 1945) is a exercise science professor in Utah.

Mel Jay Olson was born on January 20, 1945 in Afton, Wyoming to Melvin and Wilda Olson. A star football and basketball player in Star Valley, Olson joined the football team at Brigham Young University in 1963. Between 1967 and 1969 he took a break from school of serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Texas, but returned to co-captain the football team for the 1969 season.

After graduating from Brigham Young University with his bachelor's degree in 1970 he continued his education at the school, earning a master's degree in 1973 and doctor of education in 1980. He began working at the university in 1970, and is a member of the Department of Exercise Sciences.

Biographical History

Ruel Barker (born 1936) is a former exercise science professor and cattle rancher in Idaho.

Ruel Malburn Barker was born on October 15, 1936 in Elba, Idaho to A. Malburn and Gladys Barker. He was raised on a cattle ranch in Elba, and attended school in town and later in Albion, Idaho. After high school he went to Utah State University, where he studied agricultural education. Before graduating he took a job as a athletics coach at Raft River High School in Malta, Idaho, where he worked for a number of years.

In 1961 he graduated from Utah State, and then continued his education at Brigham Young University. He earned a master's degree in physical education in 1964, and a doctor of education degree in 1971. Although he had advanced to the position of assistant principal at Raft River, in 1971 he decided to join the faculty at Brigham Young University. He served in the Department of Exercise Sciences until his retirement in 2006. He currently acts as an advisor to the Barker Cattle Company in Elba, Idaho.
