Administrative History

The David O. McKay Institute functions under the direction of the University's Research Division. The Research Division was created by President Franklin S. Harris in April 1921. The McKay Institute has two main missions: Service and Research, and other creative activity. The Institute is to serve the University, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the College of Education by promoting research that improves teaching programs and plans.

Arrangement

The collection is divided into five series: 1. McKay Institute History File (1973-1981) is located in box one and contains a brief history of the institute. 2. Reports and Project Files (1965-1983) is located in boxes 1-90 and contains reports and projects from people within the department. 3. Subject and Reading Files (1979-1982) is located in boxes 90-91 and contains information on varied course subjects. 4. Director's Files (1968-1974) is located in boxes 91-96 and contains files from the directors of the institute. 5. Correspondence and Files (1970-1983) is located in boxes 97-103 and contains correspondence from faculty members in the institute.
