Scope and Contents

Financial account book of emigration for the Aalborg company of saints to Utah includes accounts payable and receivable on an individual basis. The account book has the name James H. Hart inscribed on the front fly page. The separate page has a "recapitulation list" on the reverse of the account page which is apparently an account of how many of the emigrants settled where in Utah.

Biographical History

Christensen was a Danish Mormon convert who presided over branches in Denmark, emigrated to Utah (1861) where he presided again over a branch, and was president over the United Order in Richfield (1876-1881). In 1881-1883, Christensen went on a mission for the Mormon Church to Scandinavia where he presided first over the Hjerring Branch and then, the Aalborg Conference. He brought home with him 122 emigrants from Aalborg to Utah. Christensen was a polygamist (3 wives, 27 children) and served time in the Utah State Penitentiary for "unlawful cohabitation."
