Scope and Contents

251 p. handwritten journal (1835-1841) which contains detailed descriptions of various cities in France and England with generalizations about the customs and character of their people. Jozefe describes personal experiences and accounts of the political and industrial development of Europe in 1835, including assassination attempts against Louis Philippe, the cholera epidemic of 1836, the opening of Paris and Versailles railroads, the industrial exhibit of 1839, the unveiling of the Gutenburg monument (1840), and the return of the ashes of Napoleon I to Invalides. Also includes a 129 p. typescript of the journal and 120 p. English translation, both prepared by Leslie M. Grigg.
