Penda the quadroon
Scope and Contents
Autograph manuscript of a children's story, originally titled "Far From My Home," concerning the Spanish colonization of the West Indies island of Dominica and the role played by Penda, a quadroon in the service of the Governor's wife. Several pages of the manuscript are written on the reverse side of earlier versions of the story.

Biographical / Historical
Agnes Strickland was a nineteenth century British authoress who devoted her time to writing biographies of the Queens of England. She also authored several historical stories for children.
