Collection includes 44 negatives of photographs of the Farr family, including Lorin Farr, taken between the 1890s and the 1940s. Also includes photocopies of pages of a book on which these photographs appear.

Biographical / Historical

The Farr family began with the marriage of Lorin Farr and Nancy Bailey Chase (1823-1892) in Nauvoo, Illinois on January 1, 1845. Both were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and thereafter moved west before settling in Salt Lake City and then finally in Ogden, Utah territory. Nancy would go on to have 12 children. Lorin would go on to marry five more women once they settled in Utah: Sarah Davis Giles (1831-1892) on July 26, 1851, with whom he had 9 children; Olive Ann Jones (1829-1914) on February 28, 1852, with whom he had 7 children; Mary Bingham (1820-1893) on December 2, 1854, with whom he had 3 children; Nicoline Erickson (1837-1915) on January 29, 1857, with whom he had 7 children; and Clara Jane Bate (1854-1902) on March 8, 1901. Lorin was the first mayor of Ogden and speaker pro tem of the Utah state legislate.
