Scope and Contents

Includes a photocopy of Langley Allgood Bailey's diary, kept from about 1885 to 1927, providing an autobiographical sketch of Bailey's early life, his journey as a pioneer in the Martin Handcart Company, and his mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Also includes a scrapbook kept by Langley with documents and articles related to his life and his obituary in 1928. The scrapbook also includes several original poems and was kept in a Juab Stake annual report ledger, Langely having been a stake clerk.

Biographical history

Langley Allgood Bailey was born in 1838 to Jane Allgood and Henrey Williams in Leicestershire, England. He spent his childhood years there, then later imigratted to the United States with his parents and siblings in 1856. He was a member of the Martin handcart company and served a mission to England in 1885. He was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a clerk keeping detailed financial records for the church. He married Sarah Andrews in 1861, and they became the parents of twelve children. He later married Sarah Emma Warner in 1883, and they had five children. Bailey died September 13, 1929, in Nephi, Juab County, Utah.
