Scope and Contents

Collection contains handwritten manuscripts describing the proposal to build a theater in Spanish Fork, Utah, including a call for subscriptions; a list of the subscribers and amounts pledged; a description of the lot acquired; and that this "memento" and a copy of a Tullidge's Magazine article of Spanish Fork were going to be placed in the cornerstone of the building, dated July 19, 1884. Also includes typed transcript of manuscript.

Administrative History

The Spanish Fork Theatrical and Building Association (1884-unknown) was founded to fund the construction of a theater in Spanish Fork.

The Spanish Fork Theatrical and Building Association was founded in about March 1, 1884, immediately following an announcement by Bishop George D. Snell enouraged the building of a town theatrical hall. Subscriptions were pledged my members of the association to create a joint stock company to fund the construction of the building. A committee within the Association was charged with circulating and increasing the list of subscription and determine a location for the building; its members included Willard O. Creer, Sam Brockbank, and John P. Jones. A managing committee was also created to draft a plan of and proceed with the construction, and its members included George D. Snell, William Creer, John W. Robertson, Willard O. Creer, and John Jones. E.A. Wilson was elected secretary of the committee and W. Smith the treasurer. The date of the dissolution of the Association is unknown.
