Biographical / Historical
Amasa Aldrich was born to Martin Aldrich and Hannah Madsen on March 16, 1863 in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. Aldrich served a 3 year mission at the age of 21 in New Zealand, learning the Maori language and assisting in preparing written materials for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He operated as treasurer and secretary of the Mt. Pleasant Economic Co. until 1895 as well as Postmaster, County Recorder, and a William Jennings Bryant supporter. He married Mary Hannah Jolley and had two children, Vera Rowena and Liberty Virginia. After Liberty died and he had a controversial divorce, he remarried to Vilate Maxfield, with whom he had Amasa Maxfield. He died of a coronary occlusion on August 16, 1938.
