Scope and Contents

Comprised of the journal of Sioeli Kauvaka and a volume of family history information compiled by Sisi Kafa and Paul F. Muti. The family history chronicles the lives of 'Amelia Toloa and 'Aisake Ta'e'aonga Sika and their descendants, including Sioeli Kauvaka. Most of the events described took place in Tonga, and the journal is written in Tongan. Kauvaka's journal is dated 1938-1961, and the family history was published in 2016.

Biographical History

Sioeli Kauvaka Sika (1887-1958) was an early missionary and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tonga.

Sioeli Kauvaka Sika was born on November 16, 1887 in the village of Vaipuao on the island of Niuatoputapu, Tonga. He was ninth of the fourteen children born to 'Aisake Ta'e'aonga Sika and 'Amelia Toloa. In June of 1912 he married Melenaite Tonga Ngata, and the couple had thirteen children. He became a preacher in the Free Wesleyan Church in Tonga in 1919. Eleven years later he was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he remained active in the Church for the rest of his life.

In 1938 Kuavaka was called on a mission to his birthplace, Niuatoputapu, as the first Latter-day Saint elder to teach there in ten years. He served for about a year and helped to establish a branch.

Kauvaka died in Feletoa, Vava'u, Tonga on April 1, 1958.

Paul F. Muti (1941- ) is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints living in Utah.

Paula Fotu'aika Muti was born to Kilisitina Salavia and Mosese Lui Muti. He is married to Sisi Kafa Muti and they are the parents of four children.

Biographical History

Sisi Kafa Muti (1941- ) is a Tongan family historian currently living in Utah.

Sisi Kafa 'Amasio Muti was born on March 3, 1941 to Sela Vea and 'Antonio 'Amasio in Tonga. She recieved a bachelor's degree in business education from the Church College of Hawaii, followed by two master's degrees in business organizational managment and educational counseling and three years of doctoral work at Argosy University of Hawaii. She has served in many callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Sisi Kafa is married to Paul F. Muti, and the couple has four children.
