Biographical History

Celestia Marguerita Johnson Taylor (1903-1996) was a professor of English and Literature at Brigham Young University and a member of the general board of Relief Society for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Celestia Marguerita Johnson was born in Alpine, Utah, April 8, 1903, to Jesse Wanderus and Deseret Nash Johnson. She attended Brigham Young University, from which she graduated in 1925 with a bachelor's degree in music and education. In August, 1927, she married Lynn Dixon Taylor in the Salt Lake City Temple. She joined the faculty of BYU after having received her M.A. degree in 1953, and taught English and Literature for 21 years until her retirement in 1974. In 1962 she was called to the general board of the Relief Society where she served for 13 years. During the 1970's she prepared the homemaking lessons published in the Relief Society Magazine over a six year period. She served as Alumni Association Vice President, as BYU Women president, on the executive board of Friends of BYU Library and as vice chair, Faculty Emeritus Alumni Association.

Taylor died on Sunday, July 28, 1996 in Provo, Utah.
