Scope and Contents

Contains an oral history interview with Margrit Luise Feil, conducted by her grandson Joshua Feil on October 28, 2012, for a World Civilizations course taken at Brigham Young University. The oral history discusses her childhood in Europe and her experience living there during WWII. She also discusses her conversion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and immigration to Utah.

Biographical / Historical

Joshua Feil was born in 1989. He and served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Ukraine from 2008 to 2010. Joshua graduated from Brigham Young University in 2014 and The University of Iowa College of Law in 2016. He married Kayla Bloom in 2012 and they have five sons. As of 2024, Joshua and his family lived near Des Moines, Iowa.

Biographical / Historical

Margrit Louise Knubel Feil was born on February 16, 1936, in Paltzwitz, Prussia, Germany to Samuel Gottlieb Knubel and Anna Helena Pfund. She lived there during WWII until her family moved to a small town in Switzerland. Her family eventually moved to Basel, Switzerland, where she attended the Basel College of Fashion. She was introduced to the missionaries in Basel and was later baptized in 1955. In 1961, Margrit visited the United States by herself. She met her husband, David Feil, in Midway, Utah, after his mother invited her over for dinner. They began dating and soon after were married on June 12, 1963, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Margrit and David later settled in Visalia, California. Margrit passed away on July 17, 2021, in Bountiful, Utah.
