Content Description
Contains a transcript, created by Karen Christian Jensen, of the journal of Lewis Earl Christian one of the first Mormon missionaries to South America. He relates his experience in the 1920's receiving his call and preparing to serve in South America, arriving in Argentina, and preaching the gospel to the people there. Also included are copies of his call and other documents important to his missionary service as well as copies of photographs taken by Christian on his mission.

Karen Christian Jensen (approx. 1953- ) works to preserve her family history.
Karen Christian Jensen was born in approximately 1953 to parents Lewis Earl and Mary LaRue Leavitt Christian. She is married to Dr. Joseph Jensen. She works to preserve her family's history and currently resides in Bountiful, Utah with her husband.
Biographical / Historical
Lewis Earl Christian (1902-1999) was a husband, father, and teacher, and one of the first Mormon missionaries to serve in South America.
Lewis Earl Christian was born on November 7, 1902 in St. George, Utah to parents Edward John Baptist and Elizabeth Vilate Mecham Christian. In 1926 he was called to serve a mission in South America and was one of the first five elders to open the area. His time was spent in Argentina until he returned home in January of 1929.
Upon returning he attended Dixie College where he met Mary LaRue Leavitt. They were married June 18, 1931 in St. George, Utah. Together they had 10 children.
He worked as a teacher for some time before going into construction. He spent his whole life serving within the church.
Christian passed away on August 19, 1991 in St. George where he is buried.
