Contains a letter written by fur trader James B. Bruffee to his friend and fellow fur trader Robert Campbell on September 10, 1829 that contains an early reference to Yellowstone as well as record the death of his business partner, Hiram Scott.

Biographical History
James B. Bruffee (1789-1832) was a clerk for the Rocky Mountain Fur Company.
James B. Bruffee was born on December 22, 1789 in Virginia to John Bruffey and Eleanor McDonald. He was married in 1810 to Nancy S. Williams, and they had two children. Bruffee migrated westward, settling in Missouri by 1817. There he was a clerk for the Rocky Mountain Fur Company and joined a fur-trapping expedition in 1827. He participated in the rendezvous at Bear Lake in 1829. He died in Missouri in 1832.

Robert Campbell (1808-1894) was a fur trader for the Hudson's Bay Company.
Robert Campbell was born February 21, 1808. Campbell was an explorer and fur trader for the Hudson's Bay Company. He explored in Alaska and Canada. He died on May 9, 1894.
