Biographical History
Ann Bevans Kershaw Devey (1828-1906) was a midwife in Alpine, Utah.
Ann Bevans Kershaw Devey was born on October 16, 1828, in Staffordshire, England, to parents David and Martha Bevans Kershaw. She married William Devey on June 21, 1845, and they were both baptized in to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1849. Since immigrating to the States was expensive, she sent her husband to Utah first, in 1872, where he worked to bring his family also – Ann finally immigrated in late 1873; and the family settled in Alpine, Utah. Ann became the midwife in the area, helping 284 babies into the world, and caring for both mother and baby each time. Carying her little black bag, she was known as “Grandma Devey,” and was a sure sign of an impending birth.
Ann died on July 12, 1906, in Alpine, Utah.

The original record is in the possession of Flora Diamond; and was photocopied by Roger C. Flick, the BYU Genealogical Librarian in 1981. It is assumed that the collection was donated by Flick at that time.
