Biographical History
Thomas Morris was born on October 15, 1799 to Isaac Morris and Martha Griffith near Swansea, South Wales. He grew up there, where he later married Francis, or Franny, Hall at St. Mary's. He moved to America and eventually gained enough money so that his family could join him. He re-married Mercy Crosby after his wife died, but later divorced her because of her lack of interest in his children and the Church. He then traveled to Nauvoo in May 1844 with his two children where he listened to the prophet Joseph Smith speak. In June, he witnessed the dead bodies of Joseph and Hyrum Smith after they were martyred in Carthage Jail. He later joined the Mormon Battalion on a march to California, but eventually settled in Salt Lake City where he died on January 17, 1884.
