Scope and Contents note

Collection includes a nineteenth-century ledger, photocopied photographs, an incomplete letter written by Wagstaff while he served time in prison, and both a scanned image of the journal, included with a full transcription of the journal. The journal in the collection follows Wagstaff's business activities. The photographs in the collection display not only photographs of Wagstaff family members, but also death, birth, and marriage certificates.

Biographical History

Samuel Wagstaff (1820-1897) was born in England and immigrated to Utah in 1862.

Samuel Wagstaff (1820-1897) was born in Upper Caldecot, England on October 20, 1820. Wagstaff married Mariah Lucy Webb in Northill, England on 25 December 1840. In 1862, he immigrated to Salt Lake City, Utah. Upon arriving in Utah, Wagstaff moved his family to American Fork, Utah. While living in Utah, Wagstaff subsequently married Ann McLachlan, Hannah Dilloworth, and Isabella Motion. Wagstaff died in April 13, 1897 in American Fork.
