Scope and Contents
The collections consists primarily of genealogical material regarding the immediate ancestors and descendants of Joseph Obadiah Stradling, Jr. and Harriet Jane Lamb (photographs, personal histories, family group sheets, scrapbooks, news clippings, correspondence, etc.), but also contains the journals, personal scrapbooks, and Presidential (Arizona Temple)/patriarchal papers of Stradling himself, all of which cover the span of approximately 1824-1987. Included is a 300-page volume entitled "The House of Joseph: A Biography of Joseph O. Stradling, Jr. & Harriet Jane Lamb"; it was compiled based on parental journals and personal remembrance by Glenda Stradling Lloyd, youngest daughter of the Stradlings, and published in 2005.

Biographical History
Joseph O. Stradling, Jr., the oldest of ten surviving children of Joseph Obadiah Stradling and Hanssina Thomsen of St. Johns, Arizona, was born March 26, 1891. He married Harriet Jane Lamb (fourth child of Louis Edwin Lamb and Lottie Mabel Hakes of Mesa, Arizona, born May 11, 1891) in the Salt Lake Temple on April 1, 1910. Stradling worked at various jobs throughout his life, mostly in the areas of farming, carpentry, and mechanics. He served in the Arizona Temple Presidency from 1944-1960, and as the Mesa Stake Patriarch from January 1956 until his death in May 1981 (preceded in death by Harriet in July 1979); by that time, the number of blessings he had given totaled 1,678. Harriet also served in the temple for thirteen of her husband's sixteen years of service, and was always busy in the Relief Society, rendering aid wherever needed.
