Scope and Contents

Three holograph journals or volumes that chronicle Don Gilmore Christenson's mission to Germany and Missouri for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The first bound holograph volume includes a photograph of Elder Christenson on the first page and is written in both English and German. The second bound holograph volume is composed in German. The third bound holograph volume is composed in both German and English.

Biographical / Historical

Don Gilmore Christenson was born on December 31, 1916 in Gunnison, Utah, to Joseph Christenson and Roxie Ellen Bartholomew Christenson. From 1937-1939 he served an LDS mission to Germany. Following his mission, he attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He graduated in 1941 with a degree in German. He married Freda Decker on 3 September 1941 in Manti, Utah. That same year, Don and Freda moved to Palo Alto, California, to attend Stanford University, where he pursued graduate studies in German. Following the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, he enlisted in the United State Navy. Following the war, he attended law school at the University of California Berkeley where he earned his law degree. He passed the bar exam in both California and Utah. Following graduation from law school he moved to Porterville, California, where he practiced law. Freda Christenson died in 1980. Two years later he married Anne Bussey. Don Christenson died August 9, 2000.
