Scope and Contents

This collection contains photographs covering the life of Maurine Whipple and the photos included in her books, "The Giant Joshua" and "This is the Place: Utah." It also includes photographs of Aspen Grove, Mt. Timpanogos, Zion National Park, St. George (Utah), De Mille Polygamy House, Bingham Copper Mine, Boston (Mass.), the Armed Service in Kearns (Utah), the St. George Temple and Tabernacle, the Salt Lake Temple and Tabernacle, and Joseph Smith.

Biographical / Historical

Maurine Whipple was born on 20 January 1904 in St. George, Utah. She graduated from the University of Utah in 1926 and taught school for six years. In 1941, she wrote "The Giant Joshua", about polygamy in Southern Utah, and in 1945 she wrote "This is the Place: Utah". She passed away on 12 April 1992, in St. George.
