Scope and Contents note

The collection includes 13 newspaper clippings, 9 loose leaves of handwritten poetry, two letters, one typed poem in English and a 10 leaf booklet of poems. Most of the items are in Danish. One letter, opening with Kjuse Broder has been sent from Pleasant Grove, the other from Holsted. The English poem in the collection is entitled On Going Home for Christmas. There are two poems not written by Johanne Laŭridsěn, called Just Folks by Edgar A. Guest and Little Benny by Lee Pape. There is a 1917 newspaper article, on the same page as a poem but deliberately included, called Satan's Congratulation to the Kaiser.

Biographical History

Johanna Maria Laŭridsěn (1867-1923) was married to Soren Sorenson and had eight children.

Johanna Maria Laŭridsěn was born on June 15, 1867 in Mogelmose, Hjerting, Haderslev, Denmark (because of the Danish conflict with Prussia over Schleswig-Holstein at the time of her birth, another name listed for her birth place is Mogelmore, Schlesvig, Germany). She married Soren Sorenson on June 15, 1888 in Brorup, Ribe, Denmark. She passed away on July 11, 1923 in Farmington, Davis, Utah. According to one online genealogy record, she had eight children: Jennie Sofie, Niels Knudsen, Signe Kirstine, Sarah Rebekka, Karen, Amanda Marie, David Otto and one child that was still living at the time of submission.
