Ledger provides an account of the miles of railway line laid by the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad between 1881 and 1882 for a line between Denver and Alamosa, Colorado.

David C. Dodge (1837-1918) was a businessman and a leader in the railway industry from Denver, Colorado. He worked as general manager of the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad in 1880, and for the Rio Grande Western Railway from 1886 to 1901.
