Scope and Contents note

One scrapbook, 12.5 by 14 inches, containing Joseph Thornton Potter’s Genealogy. Genealogy is shown in handwritten, color coded pedigree charts on graph paper. The oldest date in the genealogy is 1772. There is some tape over one torn page; the tape has stained the adjacent pages. Other than the tape stains, the scrapbook is in good condition.

A letter from Reverend William Potter Brown (from Wray, Colorado) to Joseph T. Warren Potter (Manchester, England), 1933 or 1939 (dates on letter and envelope differ). They were cousins. Reverend Brown gives Joseph Potter some family history information. The surnames he mentions are all found in the scrapbook mentioned above. Reverend Brown also shares family memories and describes his home in Wray, Colorado.

A letter from Aliee Brown (from Albuquerque, New Mexico) to J. J. [ ] Walker Potter, 1947. She mentions the heart attack and death of “Will”, who was probably her husband, and how she came to work as a house mother at a fraternity at the University of New Mexico. She reports that her daughter’s family has moved.

There are also two loose papers with genealogy charts drawn in pencil.

Biographical History

Joseph Thornton Potter (1913-1990) collected his genealogy which was microfilmed after his death.

Joseph Thornton Potter was born on July 17, 1913 in Ashton Upon Mersey, Cheshire, England, to Fred Potter and Maud Elizabeth Warren. He was married October 24, 1959. He collected his genealogy throughout his lifetime and the collection was microfilmed after his death on August 21, 1990. He died in 1986 in Manchester, Lancashire, England.
