Scope and Contents note

Journal includes entries on Vickers' mission experience (1885-1887), as well as his life and work in Nephi, Utah after his return. The first portion includes descriptions of his life as a missionary, including details of appointments, results of meetings, traveling "without purse-or-scrip," and individuals contacts. Post-mission entries (1887-1897) document family, work, and life in Nephi. Within this portion of the journal there is a record on his daughter, Zelph Lela's birth and death. Also includes instructions for priesthood ordinances and blessings, as well as an index of names with names of contacted members during his mission.

Biographical History

Thomas Vickers (1847-1931) was a Mormon pioneer and farmer in Utah.

Thomas Vickers was born on April 28, 1847, in Farnsfield, Nottingham, England. In 1851 he immigrated to the United States and later to Utah in 1852. He married his wife Jane Borrowman (1852–1938) in the Endowment House of Salt Lake City, Utah, on March 3, 1873. From 1885–1887, Vickers served a Mormon mission to the Midwestern States. He lived and worked in Nephi, Utah where he and his family owned and operated a large farm. Vickers and his wife had eight children. On June 23, 1931, Thomas Vickers died in Nephi.
