Scope and Contents

Handwritten letters and miscellaneous papers. The materials relate to the Patty and Hardin families and include a sixteen-page letter by J. R. Hardin telling about his journey from Missouri to Salt Lake City, Utah. Some of the materials relate to the American Civil War. Many of the items were written in California and Missouri.

Biographical History

Adelia H. Patty (1842-1926) was a teacher and homemaker in Missouri and California.

Ann Adelia Hardin was born in Platte County, Missouri in August 1842 to John R. Patty and Susan M. Watkins. In September 1869 she married Levi H. Patty, then a medic employed by the Army. They had six children, all but one of which died as in childhood. The family moved to California, and Adelia remained there after her husband's death in 1895.

Adelia H. Patty passed away on May 26, 1926 in Alameda County, California.
