Materials contain a memoir written by Sterling M. Crandall regarding his service in the U.S. Army during World War II. Describes being drafted into the Army, his training, travels, and combat experience. Relates encountering his brother, an officer in the Army Engineering Group, by surprise near Aachen. Describes sites and destruction during and after Battle of the Bulge. Describes seeing a concentration camp and the conditions of the prisoners as well as medical efforts to help them. Discusses encounters with Polish and Hungarian troops, and his search for fellow Mormons in Halle, Germany after V-E Day. Relates how Crandall made friends with two Latter-Day Saint soldiers from Boise, Idaho who introduced him to his future wife, Zenda. Includes scanned photos with captions (1942-1945), copied military certificates (1945-1946), and copies of poems his mother wrote and sent to him (1943). Dated 1942-1945, approximately 2000.
