Scope and Contents note

Materials contain a history of Elbert Hansen regarding his service in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1944-1945. Details his induction, assignment, and training. Contains Hansen's war stories that were compiled by his wife, Donna Spafford Hansen, in 1999. Recalls an experience trading his beer and cigarettes for candy and soap to give to a young girl and her mother on her birthday, and recounts some of the horrors of war. Finally talks about the end of the war, going back home and the feeling of love for his country. Also includes an excerpt from his history in which he talks about the protection he received in his life, particularly during the war. Also includes photocopied photographs of Hansen in uniform, Hansen with his family, and photographs of Hansen's funeral in 1997. There is also a comapct disc containing digitized forms of these papers. Dated 1941-1999.
